AD/Mindful Choices: Because I want to brush my teeth without needing a science degree…

By Rachel Grunwell

I’m a big believer that wellness isn’t about getting every single thing “perfect”.

It’s about making small and mindful choices where you can – and not feeling overwhelmed about labels, and ingredients.

Because honestly, sometimes I just want to brush my teeth without needing a chemistry degree.

But I am more curious about the products I use. And toothpaste is one of those things we use without really thinking about it. Twice a day, every day, for yeeeeeears. So,when I discovered Red Seal toothpaste years ago, I was interested.

I like that Red Seal has been making toothpaste in New Zealand since the 1980s, and its range is formulated with carefully selected herbal and mineral ingredients. I also like that the brand is open about what goes into its formulations.

What really stood out to me was that Red Seal’s toothpaste range is certified to the NATRUE standards, so there’s independent accountability around the ingredients used in the toothpaste. For me, that’s useful when I’m trying to make more considered choices without getting lost down an internet rabbit hole.

The range is also Vegan-Certified (excluding Propolis) and Cruelty-Free, which are values that matter to many people when choosing products.

And then there’s the simple stuff: I actually have to enjoy using the products I have in my home. I like the fresh, clean feeling after brushing, and the texture feels familiar and easy to incorporate into my routine.

That’s really what mindful living means to me. It isn’t perfection. It’s paying a little more attention and making wiser choices one at a time…

Maybe it’s choosing Kiwi-made where you can. Maybe it’s being curious about ingredients. Maybe it’s buying something because its values line up with yours.

Or maybe it’s simply remembering to floss.

I’m still working on that one.

The good news is you don’t have to overhaul your entire bathroom cabinet overnight. Small, conscious choices count too.
